The University of Hawaiʻi’s (UH) Change Hawaiʻi project is a major five-year initiative funded by a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation’s EPSCoR program (Award No. 2149133). This cross-disciplinary effort harnesses the power of artificial intelligence and cyberinfrastructure to address critical challenges facing Hawaiʻi, particularly those associated with extreme weather and climate change.
By bringing together experts in climate science, botany, social science, AI, and cyberinfrastructure from across the UH System, the project aims to build a robust research and education enterprise. Its ultimate goal is to generate “actionable science”—data-driven insights and tools that policymakers and communities can use to strengthen Hawaiʻi’s resilience and support the state’s transition toward a more diversified, smart economy.
