April Heyward is a Staff Scientist in the Department of Public Health Sciences focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Public Health at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She teaches in the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program and serves on the Leadership Team of the Clemson-MUSC AI Hub. Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Data Science,
Digital Twins for Health, Deep Learning, Generative AI, Health Informatics, Large Language Models, Machine Learning, Public Health and Epidemiology, Research Methods, and
Scientometrics. Prior to joining MUSC, April served as the SC EPSCoR Program Manager at the South Carolina Research Authority. She co-administered two NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 projects. She developed, implemented, and managed STEM programs and initiatives to increase institutional and faculty research capacity, increase institutional and faculty research
competitiveness, and build the STEM workforce pipeline in South Carolina. April is an NSF Reviewer and has served on NSF EPSCoR committees and advisory boards, planned and spoken
at NSF EPSCoR Conferences, and was a Panelist for the Future of NSF EPSCoR.
